10 Things You Didn’t Know About Breasts
Just when you thought you’ve known everything about your breasts, here are 9 things that might surprise you! And, if you’ve taken them for granted, this is the time to appreciate your breast friends for just how extraordinary they are!
- Everyone stares at your breasts. EVERYONE.
Damn right! Not just men, but even women “boob-watch”. It’s just that men tend to look at them for a longer time, while women are quick about it!
- You’re probably wearing the wrong size bra.
You must have heard this a zillion times, but I can never say this enough. An estimated 8 out of 10 of women are wearing the totally wrong size, and it can cause serious health issues including, breast, back and shoulder pain. Your bra should make you feel awesome, not uncomfortable and constricted!
- Your breast size changes all the time.
Believe it or not, your cup size changes every month! It can even increase to as much as a cup size at certain points in your period cycle due to hormonal changes.
- Sleeping on your front can change the shape of your breasts over time.
It’s advised not to sleep on your stomach. If you sleep on your front every night, it may eventually lead to change in the shape of your breasts. You can imagine them to become kind of pancake shaped.
- One breast larger than the other.
Yes, this is the most normal thing! Even though they are a part of the same chest, no two boobs are identical. You might notice it or not, but your one boob is larger than the other.
- During pregnancy, nipples can go darker.
A temporary increase in melanin stimulated by the pregnancy hormones can make your skin get darker. The effects are deeper in areas like your nipples because that area is already more pigmented.
- You need a sports bra even if you’re small chested.
When you’re doing a high intensity workout like playing a sport, jogging or running, your small breasts still bounce. In fact, they may bounce up and down by more than three inches. So, it’s better if you wear a sports bra to keep your breasts in place.
- Breast need to be moisturized too.
Since the skin on our breasts is stretched, it is very thin, thus dryness can occur easily. It is advisable to moisturize them regularly. Dry boobs can result in irritation and itchiness. Besides, moisturizing also means, lesser stretch marks and dark spots. (Reach for your moisturizer, right now!)
- 80-85% of lumps are benign fibroids or cysts.
Yes, about 80% of lumps do not happen to be cancerous. So, keep calm if you discover one while doing your regular chores. Probably it’s just a cyst. Fibrocystic breast changes happen when breast tissue overreacts to hormones. It further results in lumps and cysts that affect about 50-60% of women. Bu, that doesn’t mean you ignore it and pray for it to go. ALWAYS consult a doctor any time you spot something abnormal.
- If you are a smoker, your breasts will sag at an early stage.
If you’re a smoker, chances are your breasts will sag sooner than a non-smoker. This happens due to the chemicals in cigarettes, which do their part to break down elastin in the body.
